Our mission

The Solid State Chemistry Group is one of the RSC's many Interest Groups. The Interest Groups are member driven groups which exist to benefit RSC members, and the wider chemical science community, in line with the RSC's strategy and charter.

The group covers a wide range of interests in the area of solid state chemistry including:

  • magnetism

  • catalysis

  • conducting solids

  • energy technologies

  • solid state synthesis

  • and structural chemistry

Group members employ a wide range of experimental and computational techniques in their research, including:

  • diffraction techniques

  • solid-state NMR

  • X-ray and electron spectroscopies

  • microscopy

  • magnetic studies

  • electrochemistry

  • catalytic studies

  • atomistic simulation

  • molecular dynamics

  • and ab initio methods
